Napa Valley Genealogical Society

The Society library has bound volumes of Napa County Marriage Index, 1850-1975. Although some records are available as early as 1850, please remember that many marriages were not recorded prior to 1905. Look-up requests by phone or email at no charge.

Also available at the library: Baptist, LDS, Lutheran, Methodist and Presbyterian records for churches in the City of Napa on microfilm, which may include some marriage records.

Napa County Recorder-Clerk’s Office

Computers available for public use to look up Napa County Marriage Index, 1850-present. For marriages after 1975, Napa Valley Genealogical and Biographical Society volunteers will perform this service. See Research page on Society website for instructions and pricing.

If you want to order an Informational Copy of a marriage certificate, see instructions and price on the Recorder’s website.

Marriage License notices and feature stories of weddings often appear in local newspapers. See Newspapers Tab for how to access Napa County newspapers online.

Many Napans traveled to Nevada for so called quickie weddings; be sure to check Nevada marriage records online.

Many Genealogical websites online, both free and paid subscriptions, have collections of marriage records, usually restricted by date. Of special interest is the California, County Marriages, 1850-1952 on FamilySearch.org. It has images of the actual license and the Certificate of Marriage. They are two pages, each.
