First Generation
Virgil (Kounts) Koontz (B003) was born 28 Oct 1848 in VA
Virgil married Mary L. Turner. Mary was born 17 Dec 1855
in MO, the daughter of Singleton V. Turner. [A Singleton Vaughn Turner was born
about 1861, the son of Nickolas Turner.] Her father lived in the Raymond area
and, although not a formal minister, was always preaching. She died 3 Oct 1943
and was buried 7 Oct 1943 in Arbor Vitae Cemetery in Madera, CA.
Virgil farmed in Raymond, CA. He was responsible for
organizing the Presbyterian Diocese Church in Raymond in about 1894. He is
described in the Madera County Great Register of 1898 in 1896 as age 47,
5’ 6¼ ", dark complexion, gray eyes, dark hair, and a scar over his right eye.
In 1900 Virgil lived in Township 4 of Madera County with
his family; also with him were his father-in-law Singleton V. Turner, born Dec
1829 in MO, and Jame Latoucha, born July 1889 in CA. In 1920 he and his wife
lived alone.
Virgil died 11 Sept 1924 and was buried 14 Sept 1924 in
Arbor Vitae Cemetery in Madera, CA.

Second Generation
Singleton Nicholas Koontz (C001, by B003) was born 22 May 1876. He is
described in the Madera County Great Register of 1898 as age 22, 5’ 10½ "
high, dark complexion, brown eyes, black hair, and a mole on his right cheek. He
was able to read and write.
Singleton married Emma Dick. Emma was born in 1882/3 in
CA.
In 1905 Singleton was a miner living in Raymond. In 1910
Singleton came down from Coarsegold to Raymond and with John Krohn bought the
butcher business first established by G. R. Vignola and later by Weber & Leidig.
In 1920 he lived in Raymond with his wife, Mildred, and Dorothy.
Singleton died 3 Oct 1926 and was buried 5 Oct 1926 in
Arbor Vitae Cemetery in Madera, CA.

Madera, CA.
Eldridge Elias Koontz (C003, by B003) was born 25 July 1882 in CA.
Eldridge married Alice E. Footman. Alice was born in
1890/1 in CA, the daughter of William Footman and Jane Mann. Both her parents
were born in England.
Eldridge was a partner in Koontz & Palmer blacksmith shop
in Raymond from about 1910. Koontz Hill was named for his place on the road from
Raymond to Ahwahnee, just after you cross Willow Creek before you start up the
hill. In 1920 Eldridge lived in Raymond with his wife, daughter, and
sister-in-law Theresa Footman, born 1887/8 in NY. He still lived in Raymond in
1943.
Eldridge died 26 Nov 1962 and was buried 28 Nov 1962 in
Arbor Vitae Cemetery in Madera, CA.

Winifred Pauline Koontz (D001, by C001) was born 18 Aug 1903 in

Winifred died 27 Mar 1904 and was buried in Oakhill
Cemetery in Oakhurst, CA.
Cecil Millard Koontz (D004, by C002) was born 1 May 1904 in Madera,
CA.
Cecil married Lucille Lillian ? on 23 Oct 1938. Lucille
was born 27 Aug 1916. She died 19 July 1988 of cancer at the San Bernardino
County Hospital, San Bernardino, CA. A memorial service was held on 30 July 1988
at the Community Baptist Church of Lake Arrowhead. Her cremains were buried 1
Aug 1988 in Arbor Vitae Cemetery in Madera, CA.
Cecil and Lucille lived in the mountains above Madera
from 1960 to 1984. After this they owned a fireplace business in Crest Park, CA
and were active with the trailer groups and a coffee klatch that met at the
Villager Coffee Shop in Blue Jay. In 1988 Cecil lived at 760 E. 9th
Street, San Bernardino, CA.
Cecil (S/S 565-05-1066) died 19 Mar 1994 at his
daughter’s home in Bellflower, CA. He was buried on his birthday 1 May 1994 in
Arbor Vitae Cemetery in Madera.
