Hubert A. Buckenau is one of the largest landowners in Madera County. He resides at and owns the former Daulton home place, on the Fresno River, in the center of a 4000-acre cattle ranch.

Mr. Buckenau was born at Merced, August 18, 1888, the son of Hubert and Lida Buckenau. Both of his parents were natives of Mariposa County

In 1893, the family settled at Berenda, in the newly formed Madera County, where his father operated a store. Berenda was then a point of very great activity in the center of the wheat area as well as being the starting point of the Raymond railroad branch leading toward the Yosemite. The father later engaged in grain farming, and acquired a large part of the land that is now known as the Dixieland area. Later the parents moved to Fresno, where his father died some years ago. His mother is living with Mr. Buckenau in his Madera County home.

H. A. Buckenau moved to the old Campbell ranch, and in 1914 bought the Daulton home. In addition to this acreage he owns several more ranches in Madera and other counties. His interests are practically all in cattle.

Besides his large ranches, Mr. Buckenau is a director of the First National bank of Madera.
