  • Lakeport - Andy MAKIN cut his wife's throat today and then cut his own. Mrs. MAKIN died in a few minutes, but he did not do as good a job on himself and is still living and in jail. They were only married last Thanksgiving day. He had been drinking heavily for several days and had lost his situation on that account, and it is supposed that was the cause of the murder. The murdered wife is the sister of James H. McGEE of this city. It is supposed that jealousy had something to do with the terrible deed, it being known that Mrs. MAKIN had separated from her husband a short time before her death, and refused a reconciliation. The theory seems natural that being repulsed, the crazed husband conceived of the terrible purpose of seeking a reunion beyond the grave.  The Sonoma Democrat, February 9, 1889
