He is survived by his beloved wife, Hazel Slikker; three children, Diane Barr, Cheri Marchaunt, and William Slikker Jr.; by seven grandchildren, Coleen Kapral, Will Barr, Matt Benton, Tyler Barr, Jessica Light, Richard (Woody) Barr, Suzy Bright, Anna Slikker and William Slikker III; as well as 13 great-grandchildren. Visitation for Bill Slikker will be on Saturday afternoon from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. at Hillcrest Memorial Park and Funeral Home located at 9101 Kern Canyon Rd., Bakersfield, CA. The funeral services will be held in the Hillcrest Funeral Home Chapel on Sunday morning at 10:00 a.m. with a reception following. Bill Slikker was very active in the Greenacres community, working for a local oil refinery for thirty five years. He served on the board of directors for the fledgling Vaughn Water Company and participated in the improvement of the local school system. He and his wife Hazel owned and developed residential and commercial property in Greenacres, earning the privilege of having a street named in their honor. Bill was a gracious host who had many gatherings of relatives and friends over the years at their home on Calloway Drive. He was also a long- time member of the Bakersfield Elks Club. He and Hazel enjoyed dancing to the Big Band sounds that reverberated from the Elks Club in the evening hours. Bill was an incredibly loving husband; he and his wife Hazel recently celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary in March. They shared a love for family, friends, and hard work and especially enjoyed their travels around the globe. Bill was a loving father, grandfather and great grandfather whose sense of responsibility and compassion was unparalleled.
