He passed peacefully, in the care of his family, almost six months after being diagnosed with advanced stage lung cancer. Bob is survived by his beloved wife of nearly 56 years, Angela Villard Price, and five children: Bob Price, Jr. of Plano, Texas; Kathleen Munt of Bakersfield; Janice Price of San Diego; Stephen Price of Westfield, Indiana; and Linda Blankenship of Los Angeles. He leaves seven beloved grandchildren, as well his sister Betty Monroe of Culver City, and his brother Alan Price of Greeley, Colorado. A resident of Kern County for most of his life, Bob attended Delano High School, where he met his future wife, Angela Villard.Soon after graduating in 1944, he proudly came to his countrys defense during World War II, enlisting in the U.S. Navy. He served in the Pacific Theater, as gunners mate, on the Navy destroyer USS Gansevoort DD608, the LST307, and then the destroyer USS Frank E. Evans DD754.On his return from the War, he attended Bakersfield College and began dating Angela.The two were married August 21, 1949 at St. Marys Church in Delano and soon moved to the Bay Area, where Angela taught elementary school while Bob earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering from University of California at Berkeley in 1951. The couple returned to Bakersfield soon after his graduation to start their family, and Bob began his civil engineering career.He worked for the Kern County Land Company, the Portland Cement Association and Boyle Engineering before being recruited by Belridge Water Storage District. As Engineer-Manager, he was primarily responsible for the financing, design, construction and maintenance of the District for its Board of Directors until he retired in 1991, and was honored for his dedication and long-time service by the Board. A respected expert on Californias complex water issues and the State Water Project, Bob was a consultant to the Districts Board for some years after his retirement. Bob was a man of integrity and honor, with unwavering devotion to family. His faith and trust in Jesus Christ sustained him, over the years and particularly during his final months and days. His wisdom, humility, courage and spirit of determination will be missed by all who knew and loved him. A celebration of Bobs life will take place Saturday, June 18, at 11 a.m., at Laurelglen Bible Church, 2801 Ashe Rd. in Bakersfield. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in the memory of Robert Price to the Optimal Hospice Foundation, 4800 Stockdale Hwy., Suite 215, Bakersfield, 93309; or to the Bakersfield Rescue Mission, 212 East 21st Street, Bakersfield, CA 93305.
