Shirley was born on May 13, 1940, in Hanford, California. Her early childhood was spent with numerous brothers and sisters. She lived in and around Santa Paula, Ventura and Santa Barbara. Shirley enjoyed walking to school amongst the citrus trees. One of her favorite places she enjoyed as a child was Indian Head Mountain in the Fillmore and Santa Paula area. Shirley graduated from East Bakersfield High School. She met her husband, Gordon Hunnicutt, through the gang at Louies Station in Bakersfield. They were married in October of 1956, at First Baptist Church, in Bakersfield. Shirley and Gordon were blessed with three children. They often enjoyed family camping trips, month-long vacations along the Pacific Coast, family get-togethers with spirited games of Hearts, Thirty-one, and Spades. Shirley enjoyed attending Bible Study Fellowship, and Womens Aglow. She also enjoyed painting, gardening, crafts and her grandchildren. But mostly her grandchildren. Shirleys life often exhibited the fruits of the Spirit to those around her including love, joy, patience, giving, kindness, gentleness, goodness and faithfulness. Shirley will be fondly remembered by her husband, Gordon; her son, Ron Hunnicutt and daughter- in-law, Lisha; daughter, Julia and son-in-law, Joseph Franey; daughter, Jody Hunnicutt and fiancé, Butch Kinkade; grandchildren, Nicole, Josephine, Zachary, Christopher and Matthew Franey; Janelle and soon coming, Jolie Ann Kinkade; and Annalise and Kendall Hunnicutt. She will also be remembered by her sister, Betty McCarty; brothers, Roy Rowe and Tom Bledsoe; and niece, Dora Miramontes-McCarty. She will also be missed by numerous family, friends and especially Pookie. A viewing will be held on Tuesday, May 24, 2005, from 3:00 9:00 p.m., at Greenlawn Mortuary. A memorial graveside service for Shirley will be held on Wednesday, May 25, 2005, at 9:30 a.m., at Greenlawn Memorial Park.
