Graveside services will be held at Greenlawn Southwest Cemetery on Tuesday afternoon, January 3, 2006 at 2:00 p.m. Bob was born December 6, 1918 in Swissvale, PA and he passed away December 27, 2005 in Bakersfield, CA. Bob is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Elizabeth Goldsmith; daughter and son- in-law, Judy and Tom Eveland; son and daughter-in-law, Bob and Nonie Goldsmith; son and daughter-in-law, Bruce and Renate Goldsmith; grandchildren, Paul and Daniel Eveland, Cheryl Juarez, Michael Goldsmith, Danette Jenkins, Dyanne Lopez and Dana Bryant; 13 great-grandchildren as well as numerous other relatives and many friends. As a teenager, Bob worked to help out the family and while employed at a small shop, he met the love of life, Betty Rosencrance. They married and remained together for nearly 66 years. Bob served in the U.S. Army during World War II, receiving a bronze star for risking his own life in combat to save a fallen buddy. Bob held interesting jobs during his long career including railroad "gandy dancer," streetcar motorman and head of the painting department for the Beverly Hills School District before retiring first to Temecula and later to Bakersfield. He also had a talent for painting on canvas, as evidenced by his many beautiful paintings that are treasured by his wife, children and grandchildren.
