Frank was born December 12, 1912, to Andrew and Rachel Lucich, on the island of Hvar in Stasigrad, Croatia. He came to the United States in 1922. Frank and his family began their jouney to California, and chose San Pedro as a start for a new life. Afrter the sudden shock of his fathers death in 1927, Frank at the age of 14 years old took on an important role to help support his Mother, Brother and three Sisters as cook on several fishing boats. He came to Delano from the San Pedro area in 1941 and married his wife, Sally Caric and set out to make his mark in the table grape industry. He worked in the industry for over forty years. His brands Sall n Ann were well known for their top quality, and are still used on the Lucich Farms. Frank loved farming and made a great impact and contribution to the table grape and agricultural industry. Frank retired from the table grape industry in the early 1980s. Frank had many outside interests. He owned horses and was well known in the thoroughbred trotting-harness racing industry. He was the founder and first President of the Delano American Slavonic Social Club, was a member of the California Grape and Tree Fruit League, and The Delano Elks Club. He was preceded in death by his wife, Sally; his brother, Anthony; his sisters, Katie, Dorothy and Mary. Survivors include his daughters, Frances Lucich and Marilyn Schlitz. His beloved grandchildren, Carrie Tillman and husband, Jack Tillman, Laurie Hronis and husband, Peter Hronis of Delano, Kathy Verduzco, Terri Schlitz both of northern California, and grandson, Eric Schlitz of Bakersfield; twelve great-grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and many friends. Frank was a very successful businessman and an unforgettable man. He will be missed by all who knew him. Services will be held in San Pedro, California on Tuesday, October 19, 2004 at 10:30 a.m. at Mary Star by the Sea Catholic Church. Visitation will be Monday, 4-8 p.m. at McNerneys Mortuary, and his final resting place, Green Hills Memorial Park. Contributions may be made to the American Heart Association or the charity of choice.
