He passed away peacefully in his home on September 15, 2004. Bruce was diagnosed with cancer last January. He put up a good fight, but the Lord was ready for him to be reunited with his parents. Bruce was an only child and lived in Arvin for most of his life. His dad owned the little ice house in Arvin in the late 40s and early 50s and did home deliveries; his mother worked for Jerry Bryant at one of the drug stores. Bruce married his high school sweetheart, Betty Prue Ferguson, and they were married 52 years; both were in the first graduating class from Arvin High School. Bruce and Betty had known each other since they were 12 years old and spent many good times together. When they were first married, Bruce was in the Navy in San Diego and attended college at night for seven years straight. He worked for Truck-Lite Company for 23 years; first as a salesman and then as a Regional Sales Manager responsible for the entire U.S. He always loved to travel and this job suited him well. During his career with Truck-Lite, he, Betty and his two daughters lived in many places: Sacramento, Algonquin, IL; Bokchito, OK; and Jamestown, N.Y. Bruce was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife Betty; two daughters, Robin Hardin and husband John of Folsom, CA and Amanda Walter and husband Steve of Corte Madera; five grandchildren: Brett Hardin, Sean, India, Madison and Morgan Walter. In lieu of flowers or plants the family is asking that donations be made to Hoffmann Hospice, 5300 Calif. Ave, Bakersfield, 93309. Graveside services will be held on Friday, Sept. 24 at Greenlawn Mortuary on River Blvd. At 3:00 p.m. Services will be conducted by Chuck Simpson, Chaplain for Hoffmann Hospice.
