She greatly appreciated the help and love she received in return. Her parents died when she was a teenager. After graduating from Scottdale High School in Pennsylvania, Carolyn had to move far from family and friends to live in a nursing home in Philadelphia. At the nursing home Carolyn fed those who couldnt feed themselves and communicated for those whom others couldnt understand. Many helped get her back to visit family and friends for holidays and helped get her to a nearby college where she met her husband, Bill. Carolyn was married in 1973 and went to live in Maryland with her husbands family. The state of Maryland paid for her to attend Southern Illinois University, an accessible campus, where she earned her Bachelors and Masters degrees in Speech Pathology. Carolyn worked as a Speech Therapist in Baltimore, MD for two years. She then moved to Bakersfield in 1980, where she worked as a speech therapist and a classroom teacher. Carolyn loved working with her co-workers and helping children. Carolyn has left her love with her many friends and family members and would want us to continue giving our love and help to children and those who need it. She is survived by her husband of 33 years, Bill; two sisters, Mary Ellen Cavalier and Betty Ciccotelli; and brother, Paul Eckman. A memorial service will be held at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 5, at Hillcrest Memorial Park, 9101 Kern Canyon Road. In lieu of flowers, send donations to Muscular Dystrophy Association, 1029 Stine Road, Bakersfield, CA (93309) or the SPCA 3000 Gibson, Bakersfield, CA (93308).
