Early Mendocino County Deaths 1873-1907
This index is from the Mendocino County Recorders Office death records, books 1 & 2.
These are the earliest deaths recorded in the county. The original transcriptions
were done by the Tree Tracers Genealogical Society. This index was transcribed by
Gemma Carmony for posting on the web.
There are no death certificates for the death listings before 1905.
Contact the Mendocino County Recorders Office for more information about these deaths.
Click here to go to their web page.Added to this index are deaths recorded in early newspapers that do not appear in the county recorders records.
The first two books of the death indexes can be found on the LDS FamilySearch web site.
These records are not indexed and will have to be searched manually.
These names can be access by choosing the first letter of the individual's surname below.

Cemetery Index
This data has come from many different sources. They include mortuary records, tombstone data,
cemetery records and obituaries. The burials from Fort Bragg are from the Mendocino Coast
Genealogy Society. Those from Ukiah are thanks to Ron Parker. The listings for Hillcrest
Cemetery in Mendocino are thanks to the work of Kay King. The others were transcribed
by members of the Tree Tracers Genealogy Society and have been updated by me. I add
data to this list almost daily, so there are certainly more burials than are listed here.
There are also literally hundreds of unmarked graves through out the county that cannot be identified.
Remember just because your family member is not listed here doesn't mean that they are
not buried in the county, only that I haven't found a record of their burial yet.
I have added a new item in the Source (SRC) field. The source info now includes the
letter P if I have a photograph of the tombstone. B=Burial Permit, C=Cemetery Record,
D=Death Certificate, F=Funeral Card, M=Mortuary Record, O=Obituary,
P=Photograph, T=Tombstone.
If you find a P listed you can go here to look at a copy of the tombstone
photo. If you want a photo taken please e-mail me and we can arrange to get one
to you.
These files are large and may take a while to load, be patient.
The names can be accessed by choosing the first letter of the individual's surname below.

Mendocino County Obituaries

If you're looking for one and it's not listed here, send me a request and I'll see what I can find and get it posted.
There are now a number of web sites where you might find current obituaries for Mendocino County. Here are some of the links:

Early Births Pre 1916
This index of early births was originally transcribed from the birth index at the Mendocino County Recorders
office in Ukiah, by the Ukiah Tree Tracers Genealogical Society. They only completed surnames A thru H.
The information included in this index is just as it was originally transcribed and seems to have come from a number
of different sources. Much information is missing. I hope to find that which is missing and complete this index. Until
I do, I am posting what information is available so you have a place to start. As I find out more about these births,
I will update this index. You can help with this update by sending me the full names and correct dates of those
whose births you know.
This database is thanks to the hard work of Gemma Carmony.
I have added births that were reported in the early newspapers that did not show up in the county recorders
indexes. These birth announcements are the only record of some of the earliest births in Mendocino County.
The names can be accessed by choosing the first letter of the individual's surname below.

Mendocino County Newspaper Vital Records IndexThis is an index I have been working on for some time now. It will contain a listing of newspaper articles
which mention the following types of vital events: Anniversary, Birth & Birthdays, Death, Divorce,
Guardianship, Marriage, Naturalization, Probate.
These are all events which we need to complete our genealogy and they have never been tracked before. You will
notice duplicate listings for the people in this database. That is because I will attempt to list every newspaper
in which an event appears.
This database is added to almost every day and I will attempt to post a new listing at least once a month, as I do
with my other databases. If there is someone you're looking for and they are not listed here e-mail me and I'll see if I can find it.

Marriage Index
This is the Index to Marriages-Men - Book 1 - 1859-1893. This transcription was started a number of years ago
by members of the Ukiah Tree Tracers Genealogical Society, and has been completed by dedicated volunteers.
If there is a book and page listed you must write to the County Recorder of Mendocino County. If there is no
book and page listed, there is no marriage license. The listing came from a newspaper account of the marriage.
A listing sorted by the brides surname is included with each letter below.
I have added information from the Index of Marriages, Woman, Book 2. This is the brides index. I have also
added a field to tell you where the information came from. Cty Record means the listing came from a book in the
recorders office. Newspaper means the listing came from a news article and there is no marriage license.
The LDS has posted a number of different marriage indexes:
California County Marriages (1850-1952) (Searchable)
(You can get certificates here.)
California Marriage Index (1960-1985) (Searchable)
This is just an index.
