MEDICAL CERTIFICATES

DOCTORS, DENTISTS, OPTOMETRY, CHIROPRATORS, & MISC.

FOR REFERENCE:
Although people were practicing Medicine and Dentistry from the time before California became a state, when these regulating Boards of Examiners were created, existing practioners were required to register and show that they were competent:

  • The regulations of the Medical Society of the State of California were approved
    April 3, 1876; amended April 1, 1878
  • The Board of Examiners of the Medical Society of Homeopathic Practitioners,
    followed the same regulations
  • The Board of Examiners of the Eclectic Medical Society, also followed the same
    regulations
  • The State Board of Dental Examiners regulations were approved March 12, 1885
  • The State Board of Optometry was created in 1903; amended June 16, 1913 ?
  • The State Board of Pharmacy was created March 15, 1901 (although I found one
place that said March 11, 1891)
  • The State Board of Examiners of Naturopathic Physicians regulations were
    approved March 14, 1907; amended March 19,1909
  • The State Board of Osteopathic Examiners was created   ?
  • The State Board of Chiropractic Examiners was created   ?
  • The Midwife was licensed from the certificate from the Illinois State
    Board of Health

  • In some cases the Dental Certificates stated "D.D.S.", but some didn't
  • Sometimes there was no M. D. after the Physician's name. Possibly means
something; possibly an oversight by the County Clerk.
