Lake County, California

BOUNDARIES

Then and Now

  • Lake County was not an "original" county when California was formed. On May 20, 1861 the Act for forming Lake County was approved by the Governor of California. The northern part of Napa County became the main part, with a portion to the east taken from Colusa County and the northern part came from Mendocino County. The boundary lines between Lake and Napa counties have been adjusted since then. In March 1872, all of Knox township, which included the post office of Zem-Zem passed from Lake County back to Napa County
